Paying your Bills

Sermon by Rev. James Harrison Nixon

When you have a contract with a company be it your cell phone provider or the electric company, you are required to pay your bills. Well guess what when you are a Christian you have a covenant with God, a covenant is a contract. And we have a bill that we must pay with that contract or we will have our service cut off, the service in this case is our connection with grace.

Now if any man builds upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.

(1 Corinthians 3:12-13 KJV)

When we try and say that we have a relationship with God, and we build these huge churches to worship him what are we really doing? How many of the Mega Churches are helping with the “Souls Bill Pay Plan?” Not many, because we are building without soul these days as many have set their eyes on money and fame than on the gospel of Jesus Christ. When it comes to doing the work of I am not speaking of the work that the Law of Moses required, as you should know we are free from the work if we are under Grace. Grace is the gift or in the context of this the plan our contract has given us to communicate our souls with Heaven. Through Grace we are saved by the Blood of Jesus as we are Crucified with Jesus on the cross:

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

(Galatians 2:20 KJV)

See when we have given our life completely to Christ, and we submit to the Holy Spirit Christ then lives inside of us. At that point we are under the New Covenant which is the contract God has given the world to reach heaven. There is no credit check because with this contract all debt is forgiven and you become a new creation, a vessel for Jesus Christ. As a vessel we live in a spiritual world, filled with love for everyone. We do not hold a grudge, or attack others. We walk in the footsteps that Jesus would walk if he was alive today. As we face the current issues in our world we must stay in constant prayer and on our heels. As the attack of the demons of the world are growing stronger than ever. Yet we have to think back to our contracts terms and conditions, you know the fine print. That we are given to live a life in the name of Christianity:

Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

(Matthew 5:19 KJV)

We must love our enemy, as Jesus said: “But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;” (Matthew 5:44 KJV) So we must forgive and have a loving heart for all, and to have a loving heart and an open heart. We are not to create enemies at all, we are to lead people to the Christ by example and evangelical work. So should we hate ISIS? No we should not hate ISIS we should love them, we should hate what they do but love them as a person. The power of the Gospel has already lead many of them away from the Islam and it can lead more away if we present it without the hate of Islam.

For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so? Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

(Matthew 5:46-48 KJV)

So we have to live by the terms and conditions, thought nothing can separate us from Christ, we can place ourselves back under the Law of Flesh by choice of living under the Law. Living under the Law of Moses is a downgrade sort of speak of the plan God gave us with Jesus. The Law of Moses is the law of death as that was the law in which we had the knowledge of sin and fell short. The Law of Grace which God gave us on the cross is the contract of life and liberty filled with the Holy Spirit.

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

(2 Corinthians 5:17-18 KJV)

See when Jesus Died on the Cross for this new contract to be made it fixed the connection that was broken thousands of years ago when Adam ate from the tree.

For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

(1 Corinthians 15:22 KJV)

So we have the connection of Christ is the second Adam, as the first contract given to Moses was due to the apple hanging on a tree. The New contract of life and reconciliation is given to mankind through the Lamb of God hanging on a tree also known to us as the cross. So we once had a contract of death and works, a contract of failure and constant cut off orders. We are given a chance to have a contract with a simple payment plan, a plan that involves just three things Faith, Forgiveness, and Love to pay the bill. A simple contract to stay connected to our Father in Heaven, that no one or no devil can take away.

But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation. For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,

(1 Thessalonians 5:8-9 KJV)

So in closing to break down how to obtain this contract one must do the following:

  1. Accept Jesus Your Savior.
  2. Forgive those that have trespassed against you/Ask forgiveness for your sins.
  3. Love all without any hate in our hearts.

For information on turning to Christ or questions about the Gospel please emailwatchmenjames@gmail.comAlways walk as an example of Christ, your actions speak just as loud as your words. The post you make on facebook and Twitter speak just as loud as the actions and words that come out of your mouth. You must always show the truth of Christ and always be in the light. We are the candle sticks as Jesus is the candle that drives out the darkness of the world. Amen.
