Attacks from Within

A Sermon by Rev. James Harrison Nixon

Today in our world the church is under attack from all sides; it looks like we would be united and strong. Yet we are more divided than ever and the reason is pointed at many reason and politics and money are the two main things. We see mega church preachers like Creflo Dollar asking his “flock” to buy him a private jet and he preaches that God will grant them money. I will tell you this if any preacher teaches you that God’s prosperity is money run away as you will see in 1 Peter 1:18 tells you the truth and that is gold and silver or as we know it today MONEY means nothing:

Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

(1 Peter 1:18 KJV)

And if you even read before that in 1 Peter 1:7 Peter gets deeper on the subject that leads into this with this passage: “That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ”: (1 Peter 1:7 KJV). See God has no place in money, God actually calls for us to give up our earthly things and to follow him. So why do preachers today say these things? Well the Pharisees did the same thing and money exchangers worked in the temple in the time of Jesus as well.

And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew the tables; And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father’s house an house of merchandise.

(John 2:15-16 KJV)

Wow, so the more we look into the scripture we start to see that Jesus did not command us to place faith in money. The ever first sermon of Jesus, the Sermon on the Mound started off with the words Blessed are the poor (Matthew 5:3), it wasn’t the rich or the mighty; he actually said it would be easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than get into heaven (Matthew 19:24). So we continue to see a pattern that makes preachers like Dollar look like hypocrites, I know I should never name so one but I apologize and Lord forgive me. I just cannot sit aside any longer and watch him make a mockery of Jesus the way he does.

Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.

(Matthew 19:21 KJV)

Pastor Dollar reminds me of a man that John and Peter met once in Samaria named Simon that was bewitching people into thing that he was great. He even had the gall to ask if he could purchase the Holy Spirit from Peter by being baptized. This right here is what we are seeing today money, and happy feelings are the new false baptism in the church today. We basically have thousands of Burger Kings as churches, instead of First Baptist we should just call it like it is now First Chiristpolata because that is what greed and laziness has done to the church. False doctrine running wild and nobody cares because politics, not church politics but Ted Cruz and a lady that wants to by a martyr that isn’t even close to being a poster child for true Christianity. Jesus never attacked those that did not listen to him, he just left; he said wipe your feet at their door so everyone will know they denied you. Well here is the wakeup call United States I am wiping my feet at the door of most of the churches in this nation. It is time to wake up and get uncomfortable.

As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.

(2 Peter 3:16-17 KJV)

Beware of the false teachings, people risked their lives and freedom for you to have the Bible in your hands. The common man was forbidden to read the bible, why because they wanted to tax you and control you. The Bible frees you from that, pay your taxes as we are to obey the simple rules of government that do not go against the teachings of Christ. A preacher should never just focus on the happy, Jesus suffered; Paul suffered. The point is we all suffer; especially for our faith we suffer and that is a big part of being a Christian. Paul, Peter, John, Matthew, and the list goes on were all killed in the name of Jesus and today we are still seeing that. Yet these pastors who can spend money on big homes and fancy cars could help them and they do not, much like Joel Olsteen and his family who have lied to Texans for years. We as Christians are the body of Christ:

And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.

(1 Corinthians 12:26 KJV)

It is time that we weed out all of the false ministers and replace them with God called and Holy Spirit breathed ministers that are ready to lead the flock to a harvest of Glory in the name of the Father the son and the Holy Spirit. In a final message to Clefro Dollar, Joel Olsteen, Joyce Meyer and all of the other prosperity ministers and “happy ministers” I have a final saying for you. God has given his commands and Paul gave many outlines in 1 Timothy especially:

If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained. But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness. For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come. This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation. For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.

(1 Timothy 4:6-10 KJV)

It is time that you repent your sins and use your ministry to preach the real gospel of Jesus Christ, a Gospel that will save the thousands that hear what you say. For your doctrine is yours and you are making money off of the name of Jesus and that is the same as those that sold doves in the Temple that Jesus drove out. I pray that this message reaches you and I pray that you will change you hearts around and preach the word that was supposed to be preached to the world.
